ٱلْحِجْر

99 Ayahs

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

قَالَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِىٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَـٰعِلِينَ (71)

He said, “O my people! Here are my daughters¹ ˹so marry them˺ if you wish to do so.”

لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ (72)

By your life ˹O Prophet˺,¹ they certainly wandered blindly, intoxicated ˹by lust˺.

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ (73)

So the ˹mighty˺ blast overtook them at sunrise.

فَجَعَلْنَا عَـٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ (74)

And We turned the cities ˹of Sodom and Gomorrah˺ upside down and rained upon them stones of baked clay.

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ (75)

Surely in this are signs for those who contemplate.

وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُّقِيمٍ (76)

Their ruins still lie along a known route.

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (77)

Surely in this is a sign for those who believe.
