ٱلْحِجْر

99 Ayahs

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَـٰجِدِينَ (29)

So when I have fashioned him and had a spirit of My Own ˹creation˺ breathed into him, fall down in prostration to him.”

فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ (30)

So the angels prostrated all together—

إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ (31)

but not Iblîs,¹ who refused to prostrate with the others.

قَالَ يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ (32)

Allah asked, “O Iblîs! What is the matter with you that you did not join others in prostration?”

قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن صَلْصَـٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ (33)

He replied, “It is not for me to prostrate to a human You created from sounding clay moulded from black mud.”

قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ (34)

Allah commanded, “Then get out of Paradise, for you are truly cursed.

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ ٱللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ (35)

And surely upon you is condemnation until the Day of Judgment.”
