ٱلشُّعَرَاء

227 Ayahs

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

قَالُوٓا۟ أَرْجِهْ وَأَخَاهُ وَٱبْعَثْ فِى ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ حَـٰشِرِينَ (36)

They replied, “Let him and his brother wait and dispatch mobilizers to all cities

يَأْتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِيمٍ (37)

to bring you every skilled magician.”

فَجُمِعَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ لِمِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ (38)

So the magicians were assembled at the set time on the appointed day.

وَقِيلَ لِلنَّاسِ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّجْتَمِعُونَ (39)

And the people were asked, “Will you join the gathering,

لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ ٱلسَّحَرَةَ إِن كَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ (40)

so that we may follow the magicians if they prevail?”

فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ قَالُوا۟ لِفِرْعَوْنَ أَئِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجْرًا إِن كُنَّا نَحْنُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ (41)

When the magicians came, they asked Pharaoh, “Shall we have a ˹suitable˺ reward if we prevail?”

قَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ (42)

He replied, “Yes, and you will then certainly be among those closest to me.”
