سُورَةُ الصَّافَّاتِ

182 Ayahs

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُدْحَضِينَ (141)

Then ˹to save it from sinking,˺ he drew straws ˹with other passengers˺. He lost ˹and was thrown overboard˺.

فَٱلْتَقَمَهُ ٱلْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ (142)

Then the whale engulfed him while he was blameworthy.¹

فَلَوْلَآ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَ (143)

Had he not ˹constantly˺ glorified ˹Allah˺,¹

لَلَبِثَ فِى بَطْنِهِۦٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ (144)

he would have certainly remained in its belly until the Day of Resurrection.¹

۞ فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ (145)

But We cast him onto the open ˹shore˺, ˹totally˺ worn out,

وَأَنۢبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّن يَقْطِينٍ (146)

and caused a squash plant to grow over him.¹

وَأَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ (147)

We ˹later˺ sent him ˹back˺ to ˹his city of˺ at least one hundred thousand people,
